The Salamander
- The length for the Blue Spotted Salamander is three to five inches.
- They can live up to 20 years, but the average life expectancy is 8-10 years.
- Females are bigger than males, but males have a longer, flattened tail.
- They hide in rocks and crevices, which allows them to escape from predators. They live in the region of the upper Midwest and parts of Canada.
- They hang out in cool moist places where they can survive, stay moist, and absorb clean water through their skin.
- The way they defend themselves is by sticking up their tails, to make themselves look big and spray a noxious gas from glands in the tail.
- Females can lay up to 500 eggs a year!
